Simran has two younger sisters, Monal and Jyothi Anand, and a younger brother Sumeet Naval. Simran was born as Rishibala Naval on 4 April 1976 to Punjabi parents in Mumbai her father is Ashok Naval and mother is Sharda Naval.

Revathi married cinematographer and director Suresh Chandra Menon in 1986. Revathy went on to play a blind, rape-survivor Seetha in Tamil in J Mahendran’s Kai Kodukkum Kai opposite Rajinikanth.

The later movie was dubbed into Malayalam, with the name Thennal Thedunna Poovu. She was introduced to Telugu film industry with 1984 films, Seethamma Pelli by director Bapu and Manasa Veena.
She co-starred with Bharat Gopy, Mohanlal, Srividya, and Anju. In the same year she debuted in Malayalam film industry through Kattathe Kilikoodu. Revathi started her career in 1983 through the tamil film, Mann Vasanai for which she was awarded Filmfare Special Award – South.
